The Constitution guarantees a citizen's right to privacy of beliefs. This is important centuries after the Constitution and the Bill of Rightswere adopted. But, legislators seem determined not even tobother with why some women need to face the awful decision about abortion. These statistics do not tellthe full story of the agony most women forced with an abortion decisionface. "Decisions about parenthood are deeply personal, and are preciselythe type of interest that privacy rights should protect. The right of choice is a cornerstoneof American democracy and cannot or at least should not become agovernmental action that is an all-inclusive "oversight" to a woman'sprivacy. We arefaced with legislation about how marriage is defined only between a man anda woman. Here are some frighteningstatistics to prove that point: ""According to the Alan GuttmacherInstitute, approximately 1 out of 3 women in the United States will havehad an abortion by age 45. But, we do not have the right to prevent that choice byforce or intimidation. Our politicians should have no right tointerfere in such devastating and personal decisions regarding a woman'sbody. today. It protects today's women at a time when arguments about pro-choice versus pro-life divide our nation more severely than the politicaldifferences between Republicans and Democrats. The choice for abortion is difficult as it iswithout having the government, religious, or other social groups attackher. It is fair to assume that there are religious beliefs which preventabortions, because some people believe that life begins at the moment ofconception- even before there is a viable life within a woman's body. And neither does the attempt to legislate what awoman can and cannot do. It's fair to say that the majority of Americanshave either had an abortion or know someone who has experienced one"("While...Political Abortion Rhetoric" 276). The problems America face in dealing with "abortion rights" includesboth the anger and the attempt to punish those who do not have theconservative views of when life begins. We must not sanction thecurtailment of women's right to control their bodies and their futures"("Issues of Equality" A 28). But,sometimes even such beliefs are pushed to the background because a woman'sown health is at risk or because the pregnancy was caused by rape or incestand there is no emotional way in which the woman can deal with giving birthin such cases. Works Cited:"Issues of equality: EDITORIALS; POSITION PAPERS FOR THE NEXT PRESIDENT" Los Angeles Times, Oct. We may disagree, but we cannot be disagreeable in the very personalchoice some women may make. But, even more divisive is government's attempt to interfere in awoman's right to choose. One may disagree with awoman's choice. No women should have to make this decision under threat oflegal prosecution" ("Why" poara. It is the issue of a government's non-interference in a woman's choicethat should be the main objective of the courts as well as of society ingeneral. Wade continues to divide many in this country. No one takes a woman's need or reasons toabort a pregnancy lightly. Yet, there cannot truly be an either-or discussion: Pro-Life does notinclude the women whose own lives may be at risk, either medically oremotionally. It is time to protect a woman's right to choose,in the same way parents can select whether children go to a private, secular, charter, or religious school. 2 ). What does make sense is that the governments at all levelssimply need to stop interfering with a woman's own private decisions. Thisanger solves nothing. Abortion is perhaps the most frustrating anddivisive forum in the U.S. It is legislation whichshould never have been instituted because it puts abortion rights into thehands of the government. A pregnantwoman's right to privacy entitles her to decide whether or not to undergoan abortion. Despite attempts at legislation in states or by the federalgovernment, abortion is no longer a rarity. Anger has fueled attacks on so-called "abortion clinics" and physicians who have performed abortions. Roev.
