Paper Abstract:
“Client/server” and “peer-to-peer” are terms which describe two different types of computer networking architecture. (See appendix for functional diagrams.) Computer networks allow users to share information and various resources which may include software, databases, files, printers, fax machines, scanners, CD-ROMS and disk drives. The most fundamental difference between a client/server network and a peer-to-peer network is that the former utilizes a single, central server to which the clients connect over the internet, whereas in a peer-to-peer network each computer functions as a client and a server in a distributed system.
